The veteran artist was born on the 21st of April 1951 in Brooklyn, New York. His father, Matty LaDanza earned a living as a waste collector while his mother, Anne Cammisa worked as a bookkeeper. Both his parents were Italians. Tony’s younger brother, Matty Jr., later became a restaurateur in Los Angeles.

When his family moved to Malverne, New York, he joined Valley Stream North High School where he graduated from in 1969, he proceeded to the University of Dubuque on a wrestling scholarship and bagged a BA in History in 1972. Tony tried his hands at wrestling after graduation when his friends encouraged him to join the New York City Golden Gloves. He achieved some level of success in the rings but left wrestling to join the acting profession when he landed the role of Tony Banta in the ABC television show Taxi which debuted in 1978.

In 1980 he was nominated for the Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for TV. Tony’s Emmy nomination came in 1999 for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for The Practice. In 1998, he was declared the winner of People’s Choice Awards in the category of Favorite Male Performer in a New Television Series for his role as Tony DiMeo in The Tony Danza Show.

Marc made a few appearances in some episodes of the series Taxi.

Tony’s second attempt at matrimony was with Tracy Robinson, they tied the knot on the 28th of June 1986. The couple had two daughters namely Emily Danza, born in 1993 and Katherine Danza, who was born in 1987.
