Trevor Siemian is a National Football League (NFL) player who is widely known as a quarterback for Denver Broncos. He gained a reputation when he was brought up as the replacement for former Broncos quarterback, Peyton Manning but we may not know how that went as he is currently on the roster of the Minnesota Vikings.
Siemian was born Trevor John Siemian on December 26, 1991, to his parents who are Walter and Colleen Siemian. His birthplace is Danbury, Connecticut and so he attended high school at Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida where he joined the football team – the Titans – and played high school football. His record in football as a quarterback was 6,144 career yards and 53 touchdowns – which was also an Orange County record.
He also was so good at baseball that he was named Mr. Olympia in his senior year in high school. Siemian played in varying positions such as third baseman, shortstop, and outfielder. He graduated from high school with a GPA of 3.9 and went to Northwestern University (NU) where he studied Communication Studies.
His time at Northwestern also saw him feature prominently in the school’s football team. In 2012, he led the Wildcats to victory in the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl by defeating Mississippi State in the final. He finished his Northwestern Wildcat career as the fourth on the all-time list of completions (550) and passing yardage (5,931). He also ranked sixth in offensive yards (5,908), and seventh in passing touchdowns (27).

There wasn’t much anticipation in the drafting of Trevor Siemian during the 2015 NFL Draft due to his average career in college with the Northwestern Wildcats. In fact, even the man himself did not believe he had a shot at playing in the NFL after he was rated 22nd best. He had gone ahead to ready himself for a job or probably a career in real estate before he was selected by the Denver Broncos with the 250th pick as the last quarterback standing at the draft.
Even though he made just one appearance – against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 20, 2015 – for the entirety of the 2015 season, Siemian played his part – howbeit, from the bench – for the Broncos as they lifted the Super Bowl 50 after thrashing the Carolina Panthers by a 24–10 scoreline. Siemian found more game time in 2016 as the Bronco’s first-choice quarterback, Peyton Manning retired and his backup, Brock Osweiler opted to join the Houston Texans. He was named starting quarterback ahead of veteran Mark Sanchez, and rookie Paxton Lynch for the 2016 season.
He started the season’s first game which was against Carolina Panthers – a rematch of the Super Bowl 50 game and in the process, he became the first quarterback from his school – Northwestern University – to start a season opener in the NFL since Otto Graham in 1955. Also, having played just one game for the Broncos prior to the game against the Panthers and having not thrown a pass in that game, Trevor Siemian also became the first quarterback in the history of the NFL to feature for a Super Bowl defending champion in the season opener without having an NFL pass under his belt.
Between Weeks 8 to 14, he averaged over 300 passing yards per game, with Kirk Cousins of the Washington Redskins and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots, the only other quarterbacks to achieve the feat. Against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12, Siemian got a rating of 125.6, his best-ever rating at the time and by the end of the season, the stats showed that he had outperformed his predecessors, Manning and Osweiler’s record in 2015.
As a result of injuries and poor form, Trevor Siemian was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in March 2018 as a backup for Kirk Cousins who also joined the Vikings in 2018.
