Vijay Sethupati grew up among three siblings – a younger brother and sister, with an elder brother. He spent his childhood days in Rajapalayam and later moved to Chennai. Records have it that he had his education at the MCR Higher Secondary School in Kodambakkam, and also attended Little angels Mat HR Secondary School.
It is said that Vijay’s academic performance was below average. He was one of such students who are unwilling to take part in any school activities. He showed no interest whatsoever, in sports or any extra-curricular activities. This chap was only interested in making money, he engaged himself in doing petty jobs that would fetch him some bucks and it was in this that he first proved himself to be a hard worker. Vijay Sethupati graduated from Dhanraj Baid Jain College which is an affiliate of the University of Madras with a bachelor’s in Commerce. With that, he got to work as an accountant, but it was nothing significant. As the responsibility of providing for his family was somehow left for him, he had to migrate to Dubai where he got a better job as an accountant. Nonetheless, he was not getting the satisfaction and fulfillment he thought the job would offer, so he moved back to India in 2003 and tried his hands on interior decoration.
All this while, he didn’t consider making acting his profession. Vijay Sethupathi’s ambition to become an actor was born when Balu Mahendra, a director told him he has a photogenic face that’s ideal for showbiz. This motivated him to pursue a career in acting. He joined a theatre group in Chennai, not as an actor but as an accountant; this got him acquainted with the actors. He eventually started getting minor roles and ultimately struck a breakthrough in 2012. Subsequently, Vijay Sethupati would star in various films, earning for himself prestigious awards, positive criticisms, and numerous admirers.

Vijay is married to Jessy Sethupathi a native of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Interestingly, he started dating her online. The two got married in 2003 and have two kids, a son named Surya Sethupathi who was named after Vijay’s friend who died in an accident, and a daughter named Shreeja Sethupathi.
Jessy has always been a supportive wife to Vijay as she was always on his side during the early years of his career. Her strong belief and confidence in her husband together with his own hard work and determination made Vijay a name to reckon with in the Indian film industry. The man has several awards to his credit. In 2012, he won the award for best actor in the Norway Tamil Film Festival Awards; this was for his role in the movie Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom. Vijay’s son Surya took after his father as an actor; he debuted in a movie titled Naanum Rowdy Dhaan alongside his father to play the role of Vijay as a child. He and his family reside in Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu, India.
