There aren’t many of those actors working today. Of the few left, Vincent D’Onofrio stands out. There are debates when certain proclamations are made about certain actors or actresses, however, none exists when you call Vincent D’Onofrio one of the best actors working in Hollywood today. He is known as a method actor who takes on whatever transformation the role requires of him.

He will most likely go down in entertainment history for his role as Robert Goren in Law & Order: Criminal Intent and as Wilson Fisk in Marvel’s Netflix show, Daredevil.

Vincent D’Onofrio – Bio

Vincent D’Onofrio was born on the 30th of June, 1959 in Brooklyn New York. However, he spent his early life in Hawaii before his parents got divorced and he moved to Florida, to live with his mother’s new husband. He’s the youngest of the three children of his biological parents and he also has two step-siblings.

With a childhood that required a lot of adjustments, Vincent D’Onofrio was a shy kid who found solace in performing magic and sleight of hand tricks. For his education, he attended Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School.

Career

Vincent the actor came to be after he spent his teenage years working backstage building sets and handling sound production for community theatres managed by his father. His interest lasted into college and in the 18 months he spent at the University of Colorado, he was a member of the school’s theatre productions. Wanting to be the best at his craft, he left Colorado to study method acting at the American Stanislavsky Theater. He also did the same at the Actors Studio, learning under Sharon Chatten and Sonia Moore.

Vincent’s time at the Actors Studio birthed his first professional role as an actor in off-Broadway production This Property is Condemned.  He then made his Broadway debut with Open Admissions in 1984.

Vincent has appeared in many defining roles over the course of his career – it is the trait of a man who is really good at his craft, every role he takes on looks like it was made for him; however, a lot of critics believe his onscreen debut as Pvt. Leonard Lawrence in Full Metal Jacket is his most iconic work. His reputation for his transformations for film roles started in Full Metal Jacket when he gained 70lb for the role.

Since then, his career took off immeasurably and although he has mostly been playing supporting roles, he has never really been out of a job. He got his first award nomination, an Emmy, for his performance in the show, Homicide: Life on the Street in 1997. In 2001, he took on one of his more famous roles as Robert Green for Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He was on the show from 2001 to its end in 2010, although he took a leave for one season in 2009.

Vincent D’Onofrio has appeared in other notable works such as Thumbsucker, which he got a Best Actor award at the Stockholm Film Festival. He’s appeared in Staten Island, Kill the Irishman, and Escape Plan among many others.

Vincent is not only limited to his talents in front of a camera, but he’s also very competent behind a camera too. He has directed a number of films to critical acclaim and positive viewer reception. So far, Vincent D’Onofrio has appeared in over 30 movies and 14 TV shows, totaling appearances in over 200 episodes.

Vincent is currently married to wife, Carin van der Donk, a Dutch model. The couple got married in 1997 and have two sons who were born in 1999 and 2008. Before he married Carin, Vincent was in a relationship with Greta Scacchi. His relationship with the actress bore one daughter, Leila George, in 1992.
