Dane Cook – Quick Bio
Dane Jeffrey Cook was born on March 18, 1972, in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the United States of America; to Donna Jean and George F. Cook. Cook was the second son of the family with an older step-brother, Darryl McCauley, and five sisters. He lost his mother and father in 2006 and 2007 respectively to cancer.
Cook, who is of Irish descent, grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts, and attended Arlington High School where he delved into acting and began doing stand-up comedy. After high school, he proceeded to study Graphic Design in college as an alternative plan, just in case he did not succeed in the art of comedy.
As a child, Cook took interest in comedy often mimicking Johnny Carson and Bill Cosby who were his favorite comedians at the time. He started performing in comedy clubs in 1990. In 1996, he relocated to Los Angeles, and come 1998, he had his big break when he landed a spot in Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. It was the kick-off of one of the collaborations with the cable network and the start of his rise to fame.
In 2005, the release of Cook’s comedy album, Retaliation was a massive hit and saw his career take a big rise. The album became number one on Billboard’s comedy album chart. His style of comedy comprises “long-form storytelling” and “multipurpose phrases”
Cook began acting with appearances in small films in the late 1990s. He got his first lead role in the movie; Employee of the Month, in 2006 where he acted alongside Jessica Simpson. In 2007, he appeared in a couple of movies and appeared prominently in Good Luck Chuck.
What Happened To Dane Cook?
In the mid-1900s, Dane Cook was a common household name when it came to comedy but today he is not so popular. There has been a drastic decline in his popularity and screen time and several things have been attributed to be the reason for the downward spiral. There have been accusations of plagiarism against Cook which suggested that he copied other comedians’ materials. Joe Rogan leveled an accusation against Cook of joke theft and plagiarism. Again, Louis C.K. also brought up the joke thievery up in a public forum.
In 2015, Cook got permanently banned from performing at Laugh Factory in Hollywood for cussing a waitress and being rude to the owner of the club. In 2012, he stirred up controversy when he told a joke at Laugh Factory about the tragic movie theatre shooting in Aurora, Colorado, just one week after the incident. He, however, took to Twitter to apologize for his actions.
In addition to the decline in non-screen appearances, his sojourn into acting did not also pan out and the movies he appeared in did not perform well at the box office. Again, his comedy albums are no more best sellers. His 2006, Retaliation album had peaked at number one on the Billboard charts but his 2010’s greatest hits compilation was at a lowly number 165 on the same charts.
Is He Married? Girlfriend, Wife
During August 2018 Instagram Stories Questions and Answers, Cook came out public with his girlfriend Kelsi Tailor who is 26 years his junior. It is reported that he has been dating her since 2017 and he does not relent in showering her with praises on social media.
Cook has a half-brother by Darryl McCauley who was his business manager from the early 1990s until 1998 when it was discovered that Darryl alongside his wife, Erika had embezzled money amounting to millions of dollars from Cook. Darryl and his wife were convicted and sentenced to prison for forgery and embezzlement.
