The journey of Shay Mitchell and Matte Babel first caught the attention of the entertainment world sometime in 2017 but it was actually in 2016 that the paths of the Canadian lovers first crossed. Nonetheless, they went the extra mile to ensure that it was always kept away from the attention of the public.
The first time they met was in Los Angeles when the ET Canada reporter and actress were introduced by a mutual friend whose identity has not been revealed. As it happens, Babel is also friends with the ex of the actress, Ryan Silverstein, although there is no indication that he introduced the two lovers who are both from Toronto.
By early 2017, word was already out that there was something going on between the two when Babel took Shay to the 30th birthday of fellow Toronto native, . More so, it was later revealed by a source that the two were having so much fun together and seemed to be in love.

What was more surprising to her followers beyond the news was that she was already six months pregnant. Many were surprised how she was able to keep it hidden for so long, although it was easy to understand why she did not rush ahead to announce considering her first miscarriage.
