As the popular saying goes, change is the only thing that is constant in the world. A good example is of people who originally had certain beliefs but have over time changed to accommodate other beliefs that were once foreign to them. One such person is social media celebrity and journalist Cassandra Fairbanks who radically switched her political stance in 2016 to become a staunch supporter of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump after having supported Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders.
Prior to grabbing headlines over her political interests and affiliations, Ms. Fairbanks gained mainstream media popularity following her “Find the Dancing Man” campaign where she looked to find an overweight man that had been body-shamed online after a video of him dancing had gone viral. This, among many other liberal and libertarian causes that she had undertaken over time, led to her gaining a significant number of followers on social media, hence the reason for her original fame online.
Who is Cassandra Fairbanks?
Cassandra Fairbanks was born on the 11th of March 1985 and she grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. She has since moved away from Boston and has made a home in Silver Springs, Maryland. Information about her parents and siblings are not public knowledge. She justifies the evasiveness of providing details about her family and childhood by stating that she intends to shield them from online trolls and psychopaths.
It is also unknown where Cassandra completed her education although it was once reported that she attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst to study Physics but dropped out. She also attended the Los Angeles Recording School and proceeded to become a sound engineer for bands in the Warp Tour Vein.
Things To Know About The Social Media Celebrity
Her Interest in Politics was Ignited at a Very Young Age
Cassandra Fairbanks had always been fascinated by politics since childhood. One time in second grade, her class had a mock election and according to her, she was absorbed in it. It, therefore, came as no surprise when she progressed to become an activist later on in life. She became active on social media and signed up to Twitter in order to follow-up with the news, especially with WikiLeaks when they published leaked classified information.
Cassandra worked for almost a year as a writer for the Free Thought Project where the majority of her writing cataloged police brutality. With time, she embraced the power of social media and became increasingly active on her Twitter account. She was distinguished for her liberal campaigns and was known to post pictures and videos of protests against police brutality on her personal Twitter page.
She Rose To Fame as a Result of One of Her Liberal Campaigns
Cassandra Fairbanks became famous in 2016 after launching a campaign called “Find the Dancing Man”. The campaign was initiated after a video of an overweight man dancing at a concert was posted on the internet and the man was body-shamed online.
Cassandra’s online campaign to search for the dancing man spread like wildfire across the internet and within 24 hours, the said man who was later identified as Sean O’Brien was found. She invited O’Brien to the US where he was hosted to a party before they went on to feature on the Today Show. The campaign directly gained her about 30,000 more additional followers on Twitter.
Fairbanks Switched From Being a Democrat To a Republican in 2016
Cassandra Fairbanks was a strong supporter of socialist Bernie Sanders, who was Hillary Clinton’s main rival for the Democratic Party presidential ticket. At the time, she stopped at nothing in promoting her candidate of choice as she also took aim at then-Republican candidate Donald Trump by sending him derogatory tweets.
But as things would later pan out, Cassandra shifted her political allegiance from left to right. Her support with the Democrats began to chip away as Hillary Clinton progressed towards being nominated as the party’s presidential candidate. The final straw that saw her make a complete shift was the mass shooting that occurred at a nightclub in Orlando. The incident was said to have made her begin to take a cursory look at Trump and people who had been advocating censorship on the left.
In June 2016; Cassandra Fairbanks made public her support for Trump by posting a video in which she stated her views.
Cassandra Fairbanks Has Appeared On-Screen a Few Times
Although she is very active in her chosen career, Cassandra Fairbanks still makes out time to do other things. She has made appearances on a number of television shows, including the BBC program Panorama in 2016, and the movie Black and Blue (2016). In 2015, she featured in a documentary titled Dancing Man – the Documentary, which revolves around the Twitter anti-bullying campaign to fly Sean O’Brien to a party organized in Los Angeles.
The Activist is a Strong Supporter of Julian Assange
Julian Assange is the founder of WikiLeaks, an international non-profit organization that publishes leaked classified information made available by unnamed sources. As a result of some leaked classified information that hurt the United States, the country launched criminal investigations into the activities of both the organization and its founder who has since been arrested in the United Kingdom. He is currently facing the threat of extradition to the US where he would face espionage-related charges.
As a result of his incarceration and inability to communicate with any other person but his lawyers, Assange stepped aside as editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks. In his stead, he appointed Kristinn Hrafnsson.
Many people have since grown worried that they may never get updates on Assange again. It was at this point that Cassandra Fairbanks stepped in, vowing to continue to dig out information about the WikiLeaks founder and share it with her Twitter followers. She even interviewed him at different times while he was at the Ecuadorian embassy in London and also sent him the birthday message below on July 3, 2019.
Happy Birthday to Julian Assange, I hope he understands how much he is missed.
There is nothing on this planet that has inspired me more than WikiLeaks.
The press is not free. It’s sitting in a maximum security prison in London.
