Who Is Cody Whitehair?

Born as Cody Michael Whitehair on July 11, 1992, in Abilene, Kansas, he attended Abilene High School. He was a four-year letter winner and a two-way lineman (played both offensive and defensive) for the Cowboys football varsity. During his senior season, Cody had 140 pancake blocks and recorded 81 total tackles (41 solos, 40 assisted) with 15 sacks and was named to PrepStar magazine’s All-Midlands Region team. In addition, he earned All-Kansas 4A honours from the KFBCA (Kansas Football Coaches Association) and Varsity Kansas and was instrumental in leading the Cowboys to a combined 31-11 record in four seasons.

The centre lineman was raised on a farm in Abilene where he worked long hours as a young boy, thus, his smart, tough and driven-to-work approach to play his game is well defined.

He played his collegiate career at Kansas State University Wildcats where he started 51 of 52 games over four seasons including 26 starts at left tackle, 22 at left guard and three at right tackle which is a true mark of his versatility. He is a gritty offensive linesman with a sharp football IQ too obvious to be overlooked. Four years later, Cody Whitehair was drafted by the Chicago Bears.

On joining the Bears, the position he would play wasn’t immediately decided. He started as a left guard during the preseason but with Pro Bowl guard John Sitton joining them at the beginning of the season as a starter at left guard, Cody was ultimately moved to the starting centre position even though he has never played the position before then. Nevertheless, he proved his form as a standout, starting all 16 games in his rookie season and receiving tons of praise and recognition including being named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

In his professional debut in September 2016, he snaps the football to Jay Cutler who was in the quarterback position as well as blocked the veteran Vince Wilfork. Furthermore, his elite performances paved the way for Jordan Howard, also a rookie to 1,313 rushing yards which is 2nd in NFL as well as helped the Bears to the third-most passing yards in franchise history. He will surely rise to be on top of his game and become one of the best in the NFL in no time as he continues to step up his game.
