Call him Peter and it won’t sound weird to those who knew when he was born and named Peter “Finn” Wittrock, Jr. His birthdate was on October 28, 1984, in Lenox, Massachusetts. While his mother Kate Claire Crowley was a professor of occupational therapy, Finn’s father – Peter L. Wittrock, Sr. was an actor who saw his children [Finn and his brother Dylan] watch him frequently as he performed at the Shakespeare & Company theatre where he worked.
Growing up, Finn Wittrock would often act in the theatre alongside his father as a pageboy or messenger at times. It was from these little exposures that his acting interest and aptitude budded into the superstar we know today.
Having identified what he was naturally good at, his parents had him enrolled at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where he spent the better part of his time acting and making films with his peers. After his high school graduation and a failed attempt to impress on television, Finn Wittrock realized he needed to polish his skills the more as having the passion for acting doesn’t guarantee an accurate depiction of the characters.
Thus, he went to the famous Julliard School where he was a member of the drama division’s Group 37 (2004–2008). Finn Wittrock knowing what he had seen in the real world of acting and how difficult it was to land roles, knew what he wanted to get out of Julliard. As such, he became an active member of the school’s drama team and in recognition of his contributions to The Julliard School journal, he was awarded the Julliard Journal Award. Finn graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2008.
After graduation, he quickly landed roles in Romeo and Juliet as Romeo in the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s production, as well as playing the role of Eugene Marchbanks in Candida at the Berkshire Theatre Festival. Over the years, he has done other stage works like The Guardsman in 2013 which was at The Kennedy Center, and most recently Jim O’Connor in The Glass Menagerie at Belasco Theatre. His television works include the likes of Criminal Minds (2012) and, one of his notable film roles was in A Futile and Stupid Gesture of 2018 where he portrayed the character of Tim Matheson.
