He was born to Toini Norman and her husband Mervin Norman who worked as an electrical engineer. He completed his basic education at Townsville Grammar School and Aspley State High School, Brisbane.

When he was fifteen, the young Greg started playing golf. He became a caddy for his mother who played golf at the Virginia Golf Club in Brisbane at the time. He went on to serve as an assistant golfer under Billy McWilliam in 1975. His big break came in 1980 when he won the French Open and the Scandinavian Enterprise Open as well as the Australian Open and Suntory World Match Play Championship.

Greg started competing in the PGA Tour in 1983 and he quickly rose to prominence; hence becoming one of the dominant golfers during the ’80s and ’90s. He had over 91 professional victories and was rated as World No 1 for over 331 weeks. Greg equally became one of the top PGA Tour earners and he won the Golfer of the year in 1995.

He has been married three times and he is a proud father of two children. Greg’s first marriage was with Laura Andrassy who is an American flight attendant. The duo met each other during the late ’70s and in July 1981, they tied the knot. With Andrassy, Greg has two children, a son named Greg Norman Jr. and a daughter named Morgan-Leigh Norman. However, after twenty-five years of marriage, Greg’s relationship with Andrassy began to deteriorate and they eventually separated. Their divorce process was finalized in 2006 and Andrassy got a whooping sum of $105 million in alimony.

Soon after their divorce, Greg fell in love with Christine Evert who was a former tennis player. The duo got hitched two years later in the Bahamas and their wedding took place on Paradise Island.
