The musician is best known for being the lead vocalist in Sugarland – an American country music duo that was founded in 2002 and also includes Kristian Bush.

Jennifer Odessa Nettles was born on the 12th of September, 1974 in Douglas, a small town in Georgia, where she was also raised. She attended Coffee High School, a public high school located in Douglas, Georgia.
Jennifer attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, where she studied Sociology and Anthropology, graduating in 1997.
Career & Early Beginnings
Jennifer Nettles got her start by performing at her Southern Baptist Church, her school assemblies, and also at the community theatre. She was also a member of a performing arts group, the Georgia 4-H’s Clovers & Company, from 1986 to 1993.
While in college, she met Cory Jones, a student at the University of Georgia, and together they formed ‘Soul Miner’s Daughter’. The duo released two albums: Hallelujah in 1998 and The Sacred and Profane in 1996. Both albums featured songs that were written collaboratively by both artists.
In 1999, the band was invited to perform at the Atlanta installment of Lilith Fair, a traveling music festival, and a concert tour. That same year, Jennifer formed the Jennifer Nettles Band. The band included Brad Sikes, Wesley Lupold, Mike Cebulki, and Scott Nicholson, and together they released two live albums and three studio albums.
They also participated in Mars Music’s “The Big Deal $100,000 Music Search” and emerged as the prize winners out of over 2,000 bands.
In 2003, she joined the band, Sugarland which comprised Kristian Bush and Kristen Hall. In 2006, Kristen Hall left the band, leaving Jennifer and Kristian to perform as a duo. In 2006, the band was nominated for a Grammy award in the Best New Artist category.
In 2008, they were nominated for three categories for the 51st Annual Grammy Awards and ended up winning Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Country Song.

Jennifer Nettles’ first marriage was to Todd Van Sickle in 1998. The two almost lasted for a decade together but they ultimately got divorced in 2007. Shortly after, she got into a relationship with Justin Miller, and after two years together, the two got married on the 26th of November, 2011 in a sunset ceremony in East Tennessee on a Blackberry farm.
On the 18th of June 2012, Jennifer and Justin announced that they were expecting their first child together. Their son, Magnus, was then born on the 6th of December, 2012.
