The Bakersfield-born pitcher started out with the Spokane Indians of the Northwest League (the Rangers′ Class A-Short Season affiliate) and would make 14 appearances and posted an earned run average (ERA) of 5.06 with 12 walks in 21 1⁄3 innings of work and 24 strikeouts, moving 2-for-2 in save opportunities.
Justin Miller was promoted to the Frisco RoughRiders of the Class AA Texas League in 2011 and later spent the entire season there, appearing 48 times for the team and pitching 69 2⁄3 innings. The star ended the year with an impressive 24 walks, an ERA of 1.81, 77 strikeouts, and a record of 9–1. He was later released by the Rangers on September 1, 2013.
On September 18, 2013, Justin was signed by the Detroit Tigers and was subsequently added to the team’s 40-man roster on November 20, 2013. Impressed with his record of 1–1 and an ERA of 0.84 with four walks and 10 strikeouts in 12 2⁄3 innings of work, Miller was promoted on May 6 to the Albuquerque Isotopes in the Class AAA Pacific Coast League by the Rockies. He ended the year 2015 with 34 game appearances, pitching 33 1⁄3 innings with 11 walks, 38 strikeouts, and an ERA of 4.05, with one blown-save, a record of 3–3, and one save for Colorado.
The following year, being 2016, Justin made 40 appearances for the team, pitching 42 2⁄3 innings with 20 walks, 46 strikeouts, and an ERA of 5.70, with a record of 1–1. He went on to sign a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on November 1, 2016. He was later signed to the Salt Lake Bees of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League.
He was released by The Angels on July 11, 2017, after pitching in 38 games with eight walks, 37 strikeouts, and an ERA of 5.48 in 46 innings of work, posting a record of 5–1, moving 9-for-11 in save opportunities for Salt Lake.
Justin Miller was signed to a minor-league deal by the Washington Nationals on January 12, 2018. He was subsequently assigned to the Syracuse Chiefs of the Class AAA International League after attending extended spring training in the same year.
