Kobe Bryant, a veteran NBA star, was in the news sometime in 2003 when Katelyn Faber filed a sexual assault case against him. Katelyn Faber Background
Katelyn Kristine Faber was born on June 18, 1985, in the U.S state of Colorado where she was raised by her parents, Kristine Ann and Paul Louis Faber. Not much is known about where she had her elementary education however it is known that Katelyn completed her high school education at the prestigious Eagle Valley Senior High School situated in Colorado. From there she got admission into the University of Northern Colorado where she graduated with a degree but information regarding Katelyn’s course of study at the university and her career choice has been kept out of the public sphere. In fact, much of what we gathered came out following the civil case she filed against an already accomplished basketball star.
Katelyn Faber Lawsuit Against Kobe Bryant
It was reported some time ago that Katelyn tried her hands in the music industry but her dream of featuring in the popular music show American Idol was never realized as her audition was unsuccessful. It was after the show’s audition, she got a job at a hotel in Colorado. Yes, you guessed right, the very same hotel she accused Bryant of raping her in.
The drama started sometime in June 2003 when Kobe checked into a room at the famous The Lodge and Spa in Eagle County, Colorado. According to sources, the basketball player was in town for a surgery that was scheduled to hold on July 2, 2003. During his stay in the hotel, Bryant met with Katelyn who was a staff of the hotel. However, less than 24 hours after they met, Katelyn accused the widely acclaimed rapper of raping her. It is worthy to note that Bryant was married at the time.
On the scheduled day of his surgery, officers from the Sheriff’s office showed up and demanded that Bryant should explain himself in the allegations levied against him by Katelyn Faber. Upon being pressed by the detectives who even went as far as declaring that they found DNA evidence on Katelyn, Kobe admitted to having sexual relations with Faber but claimed that it was consensual.
The Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Bryant on July 4, 2003, and he turned himself in for further investigations. Barely two weeks later, the DA’s office filed a court case against the professional basketball player on allegations of sexual assault.
After months of hearing, the case was summarily dismissed by the judge following Faber’s refusal to come out and testify. However, after the case was dismissed at the county court, Katelyn went ahead to file a civil lawsuit against Kobe. This led to weeks of mediating by their attorneys who eventually reached an out-of-court settlement but the intrinsic details of the settlement were not made public due to obvious reasons. On his own part, Bryant still went ahead to issue a public apology which he did in the company of his wife, Vanessa.
Where is Katelyn Now?
It is known that Katelyn Faber’s case with Kobe brought her into the limelight although many fans of the basketball star devised all sorts of ways to ridicule and scorn her. It, therefore, did not come as a surprise when she resigned from public view immediately after the case between her and Kobe was settled.
We also gather that she began dating Cort Colon, a seemingly unknown guy, shortly after the case. In addition to her new relationship, Faber now has a son but the identity of her son and his father is largely unknown. However, rumors have it that Bryant is likely to be the father of her son but we cannot ascertain the truth behind the rumors as other sources have it that the father of her child is Cort Colon.
