The name Michael Stone may not ring a bell until that of his ex-wife is mentioned. Stone is not a celebrity himself, but he is pretty famous as the former husband of the Jewish neurologist, author, and actress,
Stone’s ex-wife is simply a bundle of talents, she is a perfect embodiment of both brain and skills. Even with her qualifications in medical sciences in the field of neurology, she has managed to excel in the entertainment industry as an actress. Mayim has been featured in several known productions on both the big and the small screen, winning a few prestigious awards and several nominations for her efforts and skills.
Who Is Michael Stone?
The question of the identity of Mayim Bialik’s ex-husband has been begging for answers for years to no avail. Stone is obviously a very private person; as such, not much information can be accessed on his personal life. The only known fact about his family is that they practiced the Mormon religion and Stone was born into the faith. He only converted to Judaism because of his marriage but we don’t have information regarding his post-marriage faith. Is he still part of Judaism or has he gone back to his former Mormonism? Hardly can anyone tell a thing about this.
What Was His Relationship with Mayim Bialik?
Michael Stone is Mayim Bialik’s ex-husband. The couple got married on the 31st of August 2003 after a year-long dating period. Though Stone’s religion is Mormon, he agreed to convert to Judaism to be able to marry Mayim who had previously told him that she would not consider marriage to a man that is not from her religion. Besides, Mayim laid emphasis on raising her children in line with the Jewish doctrine.
Their wedding was an amalgamation of Victorian-themed ceremony and some characteristics of Jewish customs. It was well attended by relatives from both sides, even Stone’s Mormon relatives who supported his wedding and conversion graced the occasion in their numbers.
The couple’s union lasted for all of nine years before they decided to call it quits. Meanwhile, they have already had two lovely sons. Mayim had her first son at the age of 29; Miles Roosevelt Bialik Stone joined the family on the 10th of August 2005. She was already 32 when she birthed her second son, Frederick Heschel Bialik Stone. He was born on the 15th of August 2008.
By November 2012, the couple had already concluded their divorce. The cause of their separation was rumored to be Mayim’s style of parenting which was completely unacceptable to Michael Stone. Mayim, as the rumors go, took a traditional approach called attachment parenting to raising their kids which her husband objected to.
Before the birth of their kids, the couple seemed to be doing well in building a happy and enduring relationship. However, with the coming of the kids, they started experiencing frictions in their family life. After their divorce, they made a joint statement where they related that their priority is raising their kids in two different homes without traumatizing their childhood. According to Michael and Mayim, they’d like the transition from one home to the other to be as seamless as possible, in such a manner that it wouldn’t affect the boys psychologically. They further stressed that they are totally committed to the well-being of their children.
Although Michael Stone had quite a quiet wedding, his divorce was far from being a quiet one. Because of the Jewish tradition involved, the couple had to go through the process of divorce twice for it to be binding. After their official divorce in court, they had to pass through a Jewish religious process known as “get”. This tradition of getting a divorce is as old as time. It basically involves the document of divorce written by a scribe being handed over to the woman by her husband in the presence of a witness.
Though it may just be dismissed as tradition, the “get” process is absolutely necessary for any couple married in the Jewish tradition to be completely divorced, even if the civil divorce has been finalized. If the process of “get” is omitted, it will mean that the couple involved is still married and are not free to remarry if they so desire.
