Mollie King has proven to be a star of diverse talents in her long-running showbiz career. She shot into the spotlight as a member of the highly successful girl group ‘The Saturdays’. During their 7-year run, The Saturdays released several Top 10 albums in addition to multiple UK number 1 hits.

The group embarked on a hiatus in 2014 and a year later, Mollie King got signed as a solo artist to Island Records. Beyond her illustrious music career, the multitalented star has also delved into other aspects of showbiz having held a number of hosting gigs both on radio and television.

Who Is Mollie King of The Saturdays?

Mollie Elizabeth King was born on the 4th day of June 1987 in the London Borough of Wandsworth, England. Growing up, she was an excellent skier and she was a member of the British Children’s Ski Team. This earned her a scholarship to study at the British Ski Academy. She had a fairly successful ski career as a teenager but she eventually opted out of a full-time ski career to pursue music.

Back in 2004 and 2005, Mollie King auditioned for The X Factor both as a solo artist and as a member of the all-girl group ‘Fallen Angelz’. In 2007, she formed another girl group The Saturdays alongside Frankie Bridge, Una Healy, Rochelle Humes, and Vanessa White. The group achieved 4 top ten albums including 13 number hits from 2008 to 2014.

The Saturdays’ first official single “If This Is Love” was released in July 2008 and it made it to the number 8 spot on the UK Singles Chart. This and several other top 10 hits were contained in the group’s debut album Chasing Lights which peaked at No 9 on the UK Albums Chart. This debut album was a massive commercial success as it has since attained double platinum status in the UK.

The group’s sophomore album Wordshaker (2009) also peaked at number 9 in the UK and it also contained a few top ten hits. Their subsequent albums Headlines! (2010), On Your Radar (2011) and Living for the Weekend (2013) were also fairly successful. The group also headlined several tours both in the UK and across the US. They temporarily moved to the United States in late 2012 in a bid to break into the US music scene.

Their US trip ultimately culminated in the group’s first international single “What About Us”, a collaboration with Sean Paul, in December 2012. Their 3-month stay in the country was chronicled in a one-season long reality TV series, Chasing the Saturdays, which premiered on the E! network in January 2013. Despite these laudable successes on the international scene, the group went on a hiatus in 2014.

Mollie King swiftly began working on her solo career after landing a recording contract with Island Records in October 2015. She equally has delved into other aspects of show business while she continues to work on her debut solo album. She appeared on the British TV dance contest Strictly Come Dancing alongside professional dancer AJ Pritchard in 2017. King became Matt Edmondson’s co-host on BBC Radio 1 in April 2018. She equally became a co-presenter on the British daytime TV program This Morning in August 2018.

Siblings and Parents

Mollie King’s mother is Susan (née Wykes) and her father is Stephen King. She grew up alongside 2 older sisters, Ellen and Laura Ann. Back in 2013, her sister Ellen King tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Harry Thurman. Other than this, there is very little information regarding the singer’s family in the public domain. Apparently, her parents and siblings may not want to share the spotlight with their famous girl wonder.

She may be single at the moment but this multitalented star has never been in lack of dating options. She had an on-and-off romance with British fashion model David Gandy. The duo first got together in 2011 but they broke up after dating for about 2 years. They rekindled their love sometime in 2015 but they ultimately called it quits by January 2016.

Back in 2010, Mollie King dated fellow music star Andy Brown who is best known as the lead vocalist of the English pop-rock band “Lawson”. They got together in January 2010 and after dating for a little over a year, they parted ways in February 2011.

King’s list of famous ex-boyfriends also includes songwriter and music producer Jordan Omley, who represents one half of the music duo “The JAM”. Their relationship lasted for about a year between 2013 and 2014. She has also been linked with many other celebs including cricket player Stuart Broad and British royal Prince Harry.
