All golf lovers should know the name Paul Casey, the English professional golfer and member of the USA-based PGA Tour, who was selected for the EurAsia Cup in January 2018.
Casey, who is best known for achieving the third overall world golf rankings in 2009, has maintained his position as one of the best-ranked golfers of his time. The 2017 Masters ranked him as one of the highest-ranked players of our time. Here we will look at facts about the young golfer’s private life and wealth.
Who Is Paul Casey?
Paul was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, his original name is Paul Alexander Casey. He was born on July 21, 1977, but he grew up in Weybridge, Surrey, in West London, where he moved with his parents. Paul received his earliest education first at Cleves School in Weybridge and then at Hampton School in West London before moving to Strode’s College in Egham, Surrey, for his A-Levels. He later received a golf scholarship at Arizona State University.
Casey began his career as an amateur golfer and never failed to stand out from his fellow players. He showed an extraordinary playing record when he won the Pac-12 Championship in the USA three times in a row (1998, 1999, and 2000). After his success in the 2000 championship, he even turned pro. This was inevitable considering that he broke records set by the American professional golfer Eldrick Tont Woods, better known as Tiger Woods. Since then, Paul has participated in two remarkable professional golf tours around the world, the PGA Tour in the USA and the European Tour.
In May 2001, Casey joined the European Tour, where he finished second in his fifth event and won a major victory at the Scottish PGA Championship in Gleneagles. He finished the season 22nd in the Order of Merit and received the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award. The following year was also remarkable for the golfer, winning the 2003 Benson and Hedges International Opening, and also doing well at the ANZ Championship, finishing sixth in the Order of Merit.
However, 2004 was a disappointing year for him, as he was unable to win any individual titles that year. Nonetheless, he was able to record some notable successes, such as joining the European Ryder Cup team and winning the WGC World Cup for England in partnership with Luke Donald.
Paul has since achieved a remarkable breakthrough. His biggest wins came in 2009 when he won his tenth event on the European Tour at the 2009 BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey. This led to his promotion to 3rd place in the official golf world rankings.
His Net Worth
In addition to his best titles in 2009, Casey has earned more for himself. These include the 2011 Volvo Golf Champions Tournament in Bahrain and the 2012 Telus World Skins Game in Canada. He won his 12th European Tour title at the Irish Open in 2013, and the following year he won his 13th European Tour title at the KLM Open in the Netherlands. All this brought him net assets of about $21 million on an annual salary of about $4 million.
Casey is ranked 18th on the PGA Tour’s list of the top 20 highest paid golfers, and although he has maintained his position on the world’s top 30 rankings for two consecutive years, his only victory on the PGA Tour was in 2009.
Paul Casey’s Wife, Divorce, and Girlfriend
Casey was married to Jocelyn Hefner, an avid amateur rider who was known to participate in local equestrian events. The two married in 2008 and lived together in rural Arizona before divorcing two years later.
Casey is currently married to his girlfriend, Pollyanna Woodward, a television presenter whom he met at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for Formula One racing in 2011. Woodward, best known for his co-hosting of the gadget show that aired from 2010-2013, was engaged by Paul during the 2013 Christmas season and they were married in January 2015. Currently, the couple is blessed with two children, one of whom is named Lex.
