Susan was born in Scarsdale, New York, on December 23, 1946, to Jeanette and Victor Lucci. Her father, a building contractor is of Italian ancestry, and her mom is of French, Swedish, and German ancestry.

She attended high school in New York at Garden City High School, Garden City, New York. After graduating from high school in 1964, she headed to  Marymount College, where she bagged a degree in drama in 1968. Lucci is not an only child, she has an older brother named James.

She has always been a lover of TV soaps and series from childhood and it was this love that led her to study Drama at Marymount College after high school. In 1970 at the age of twenty-four, Susan Lucci began playing Erica Kane on the ABC daytime drama soap opera All My Children, which aired on the network for over four decades (1970-2011).

Playing the ever-scandalous character of Erica Kane in the series, earned Lucci nineteen Emmy Awards nominations and one win in 1999. The role also earned her the title as the most popular character in the history of soap operas.
