1. She was married to a famous man

Edith Mack Hirsch’s ticket to fame was her marriage to Desi Arnaz (b. March 2, 1917). Arnaz was a man of many talents, a Cuban-born American screen master. He was an actor, a musician, and a television producer.

Arnaz left the earth to the great beyond more than three decades ago but is still widely remembered today for his portrayal of Ricky Ricardo on the television sitcom I Love Lucy. While the show lasted, he shared the screen with another force to reckon with in the entertainment industry at the time, his once upon a time wife and forever love, dramatic and comedic actress Lucille Ball (1911-1989). The duo was still married at the time.

He also produced several other television series including The Ann Sothern Show and The Untouchables. He was also known as the foreman of the Latin music band, the Desi Arnaz Orchestra. After his divorce from his first wife in 1960, Desi got married to Edith on March 2, 1963, in Miami, Florida, and they were married until her death in 1985. Lucile got remarried to stand-up comedian, Gary Morton.

2. Desi Arnaz wasn’t her first husband

Prior to clicking on the fame button by marrying Arnaz, like her famous husband who was married once before, she was formerly the wife of Clement L. Hirsch.

Hirsch was an American national born in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 26, 1914. It is not known when they tied the knots or how long they were married but they have long been separated before Edith embarked on her second marital journey.

Besides the vagueness of their relationship timeline, it is also not known if they had any children together. The only other known fact about her first husband is his death record. His earthly sojourn ended on March 15, 2000, at the age of 85, in Newport Beach, Orange, California.

On the other hand, Arnaz made the headlines for his tumultuous marriage with Lucile Ball. They tied the knot on November 30, 1940, but their union was anything but blissful. Ball decided to put an end to their marriage in 1944 by filing for a divorce in September of that year, on the grounds of infidelity and drunkenness on her husband’s part. Ultimately, the couple got back together and started a family. They welcomed two kids; a daughter named Lucie Arnaz (born in 1951) and a son named after his father arrived two years later. Both of their kids are actors.

She was good friends with Lucile Ball as revealed by the latter in her bio Love Lucy. Ball also wrote that she had known Edith for years and was pleased her former husband married her.

We are not, however, implying that Arnaz met Edith through Ball but it is possible that being friends, she may have come to know Arnaz through his first wife. Whatever be the case, the duo did meet through a channel, hooked up, and eventually got married.
