Lionsgate might be one of the youngest entertainment companies in the film making business having only been operational for a little over 22 years but it does not stop the entertainment company from producing some of the best films we have seen. After over two decades of entertaining moviegoers with top-notch films, Lionsgate has won the hearts of so many movie lovers by continually releasing some very incredible films. The film company is right at the top as one of Hollywood’s biggest filmmaking companies and with the news of upcoming Lionsgate movies, fans are eagerly anticipating what the prestigious filmmakers have in store. Judging by the spectacular kinds of films it is known for, we expect that their upcoming releases would keep fans on the edges of their seats.
Lionsgate’s very first film release was The Pillow Book on June 6, 1997, and it starred Vivian Wu as its lead character. The erotic drama film was directed and written by Peter Greenaway, shot in four different countries across Europe and was released in 6 different languages. Lionsgate films served as The Pillow Book distributor.
2019 appears to be one of Lionsgate’s busiest years as it has lined up thrilling movie releases from the first month of the year. Films like John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Anna, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Angel Has Fallen and Rambo: Last Blood all reached the public in the same year though in different months with Angel Has Fallen and Rambo: Last Blood being released in August and September 2019, respectively. Jexi – October 11, 2019
Jexi is the 13th film Jon Lucas and Scott Moore will be working on together. The filmmakers directed and wrote the comedy film. Phil’s unidirectional lifestyle is about to change as he comes across Jexi, an artificial intelligence life coach, cheerleader and virtual assistant. Since meeting Jexi, Phil has become less dependent on his phone, an addiction he never thought he could let go.
A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon – October 18, 2019
The British animation film is the sequel to the 2015 animation film Shaun the Sheep Movie. The film would have a change in its directors as Will Becher and Richard Phelan would direct it. The film would also serve as Will and Richard’s debut directorial jobs. Justin Fletcher would once again voice the main character Justin Fletcher and John Sparkes will reprise his role voicing Bitzer.
The Gallows Act II – October 25, 2019
Fans of horror films are about to be thrilled as in a short time; Lionsgate would be releasing the second part of the 2015 supernatural horror film The Gallows. The 2015 film blew many minds away when it earned 43 million at the box office worldwide after only being produced with a little over $100 thousand. The success of The Gallows at the box office has inspired the production of The Gallows Act II. Inspired by a real-life incident that occurred in the home town of Beatrice, Nebraska, the film The Gallows which was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures centers on some teenagers’ attempt to bring back to life a failed school play which saw the accidental death of Charlie Grimille, the film’s lead character.
Midway – November 8, 2019
This is one of the upcoming Lionsgate movies that have their plot drawn from a real event. Midday would be giving us an experience of war when it premieres in the fall of 2019. With a budget of $100 million used in the production of the film, it is not just expected that the film should be mind-blowing but it should also perform to expectations if not beyond at the box office.
The film Midday which starts its first scene with intense battle scenes from Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, centers on the clash between the Imperial Japanese Navy with the American fleet. It tells of the soldiers who used their instincts and bravery to overcome the war odds.
Knives Out – November 27, 2019
Detective Benoit Blanc is called upon to investigate the murder of Harlan Thormbey who was murdered in his mansion on his 85th birthday. He threw the birthday party in his luxurious home and invited his family to celebrate with him. After the party, Harlan was discovered dead making everyone at the party a suspect.
