Emily Deschanel is an American incredibly talented actress, producer, and director. In 2004, she was listed by Interview Magazine as one of “Six Actresses To Watch”. She is best known for her role on the FOX hit procedural show, Bones. On Bones, she played Dr. Temperance Brennan – a kinesiologist, an anthropologist, and a forensic anthropologist –  who uses her superior knowledge to help solve murder cases. She works closely with FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, with who she later develops a personal relationship with. The show was loosely based on a series of books by Kathy Reichs.

For playing Dr. Temperance in Bones for 12 seasons, Emily was nominated for a Satelite Award, a Teen Choice Award, and several People’s Choice Awards

She made her feature film debut in 1994 in the comedy-drama film, It Could Happen To You which starred Bridget Fonda and Nicolas Cage. She next appeared on Stephen King’s miniseries Rose Red where she played Pam Asbury. She also appeared in Glory Road, Cold Mountain, and The Alamo.

She has also appeared in the FunnyOrDie.com video, The Booby Scare, which was used to promote breast cancer screenings; the video also starred Alyson Hannigan, Minka Kelly, Katharine McPhee, and Jamie King.

Besides acting, Emily also has an interest in animal welfare. This led to her being an associate producer on How I Became an Elephant, a documentary.

Emily Erin Deschanel was born on the 11th of October, 1976. Her mother, Mary Jo Deschanel was an American actress who appeared in House, Twin Peaks, The Right Stuff, Winter Passing, and many other projects. Her father was an Academy-Award nominated cinematographer and director.

Her younger sister is Zooey Deschanel, an equally famous actress who gained attention for her roles in (500) Days of Summer, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Good Girl, Yes Man, and Almost Famous. She is also noted for her deadpan comedy in her film roles. Zooey’s most famous role is perhaps on her television show – New Girl – where she plays Jessica Day, a character for which she received Golden Globe nominations and Emmy Award Nominations.

Emily’s grandfather was French from Oullins, a suburb in the city of Lyon in eastern France. Emily is also of Swiss, English, Dutch and Irish descent.

She attended both the Crossroads school and the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, after which she attended Boston University where she graduated with a Bachelors’s Degree in Theatre.

Emily is a vegan and an avid supporter of animal rights. She has supported several causes that protect animal rights. She was also at the launch of Thanking The Monkey: Rethinking The Way We Treat Animals, a book by Karen Dawn, an animal rights advocate. The book discusses how vegan and vegetarian lifestyles and diets help save the environment. She is also on the board of directors of Farm Sanctuary, an animal protection organization.

Emily was raised as a Roman Catholic but she is no longer religiously active and considers herself an agnostic, often saying she is more spiritual than religious.

Family Life: Husband, Children, Best Friend

In 2010, Emily Deschanel got married to David Hornsby, actor and writer on It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. The two got married in a private ceremony in Los Angeles, in the Pacific Palisades area.

David was also the creator and star of the short-lived CBS comedy, How To Be A Gentleman. As an actor, he also appeared in Flags of Our Fathers, Minority Reports and Pearl Harbour.

Almost a year after their marriage, Emily gave birth to their son Henry Lamar Hornsby on the 21st of September, 2011. The couple had their second child, a son, Calvin, on the 8th of June 2015.

Emily is best friends with Michaela Conlin, who also played her best friend – Angela Montenegro – on the show Bones. Emily also has a close friendship with several of her co-stars including David Boreanaz who played her love interest – FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth – on Bones.
