Game of Thrones is a fantasy television series that is an adaptation of the best-selling book series by George R.R. Martin – A Song of Fire and Ice. The first two seasons are based on the first novel A Game of Thrones and parts of the second novel, A Clash Of Kings. Since its launch in 2011, this American show has spanned seven years with a total of seven seasons and sixty-seven episodes to date. The last season of the show is scheduled to air in 2019. Game Of Thrones Seasons 1-7 Synopsis

Game of Thrones follows the struggle for total control over the seven kingdoms, the rightful claim to the Iron Throne and a battle between humans and the ‘White Walkers’ – an army of the undead, led by men of ice with superhuman powers. The geographical scope of this show is mainly the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos. This epic fantasy offers a mixture of romance, adventure, comedy and an endless variety of twists and turns.

The first season introduces us to all the key characters on which the story is based, such as the Lannisters – whose main members are the incestuous twins Jamie and Cersei; their younger brother, the goblin Tyrion, and their hard-boiled father Tywin. There is also the Stark household, consisting of Ned Stark, his wife Catelyn and their children – Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon, as well as Ned’s bastard child Jon Snow. We are also introduced to Daenerys Targaryen, who considers herself the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.

As in the first season, the Lannisters control the Seven Kingdoms with the seat of power in King’s Landing, the Starks live in Winterfell and exercise control of the North with the House Patriarch, Ned Stark as Warden of the North. Daenerys Targaryen is married by her brother to Khal Drogo, who wants an army to reclaim the Iron Throne, which he believes to be the rightful heir. The season ends with the death of Robert Baratheon, King in King’s Landing, the death of Ned Stark, the death of Khal Drogo, the birth of Daenerys Targaryen as Mother of Dragons and the March of the White Walkers, which means ‘Winter is coming’.

In the following seasons two and three, some of the actions that began in the first season will continue, Daenerys Targaryen will become stronger, her dragons will grow bigger and stronger and her army will also grow, especially with the conquest of the Astapori Masters and the taking of control of the Immaculate.

The Stark family is scattered throughout the kingdoms; Robb – the first son of the Stark takes control of the north and leads them in a battle against the Lannister army to avenge his father’s wrongful death. The Lannisters are still in control and Cersei’s first son, Joffrey, sits on the Iron Throne. In these seasons, the men of The Night’s Watch find Dragonglass to help them fight the White Walkers. Bran, the strong child who has knocked off a ledge in Jamie Lannister’s first season, learns of his new powers, which grow stronger as he moves further north of the Wall. Lady Catelyn frees Jamie, who was captured as a prisoner of war, in the hope of ensuring the safety of her daughters in King’s Landing without her knowing it. Arya has run away and Sansa is to marry into the Lannister family Season three ends with the death of Lady Catelyn and her son Robb. The season also ends with Ramsey Snow’s capture of Theon Greyjoy, of Winterfell and the North. Stannis Baratheon and his army march to the Wall to help the Night’s Watch fight the White Walkers who began their march to the Wall in the first season.

The story progresses in the fourth and fifth seasons with the introduction of new characters. Actions in these seasons take place in King’s Landing, Winterfell, Dorne, The Wall, Beyond the Wall and Essos – a continent other than Westeros. Daenerys begins an affair with one of her bodyguards, exile her chief advisor, and imprison two of her dragons after one of them kills a peasant child. She also struggles to maintain order in the kingdoms she has conquered, and at the end of season five, she is captured by another Khalaser. The Lannisters are more powerful than ever under the control of their patriarch Tywin. Joffrey dies violently from a poison attack, and Tyrion, his uncle and former Hand of the King, is blamed by Cersei for the murder. For the Lannisters, season four ends with Tywin being killed by his son Tyrion. Cersei orders the mountain to be resurrected after his death by a poisoned blade and she continues the affair with her twin brother Jamie.

Jon Snow, the current leader of the Night’s Watch, has had his first battle with the White Walkers and decides to use his power to help the outlawed savages, as the White Walkers kill them in large numbers and add them to their growing army of undead. This action provokes fierce resistance from the men of the Night’s Watch and leads to a mutiny against Jon Snow.

Ramsey’s perverse ways are revealed as he tortures Theon psychologically and physically, including raping Sansa in front of him. Sansa, who had returned home to find that her house had been taken over by the Bolton Army, is forced to marry Ramsey.

We are introduced to the High Sparrow, whose pious lifestyle and zeal is a problem for the elites and kingdom of King’s Landing, including the Lannisters. Bran Stark meets the three-eyed raven and begins his training to sharpen his strength.

In season six, Jon Snow is resurrected by the Red Prophetess, defeats Ramsey and reclaims Winterfell. In the seventh season, he meets Daenerys and convinces her to join the fight against the White Walkers. Daenerys had already defeated the Khalaser who had kidnapped her and persuaded the Dothraki to cross the seas, an act contrary to their principles and their culture, but because of their many heroic deeds and their unparalleled power, they pledge their loyalty.

Cersei, who killed most of her enemies in a bombing raid, including the High Sparrow, now rules in King’s Landing and has refused to send soldiers to help in the fight against the White Walkers, Jamie, her brother goes against her will and joins the forces of the Targaryen girl and the King in the north, Jon Snow. The seventh season ends with the White Walkers approaching the Wall and destroying it with dragon fire. At last, winter is here.

The eighth and final season is scheduled to air in 2019 after more than a year of filming.

The show continues to gather viewers and sweep prizes at the Emmy, it currently has the highest number of illegal downloads since 2012 and has been in this position for six years.
