Kandyse McClure was born on March 22, 1980, in Durban, South Africa. She is of Canadian nationality and Cape coloured ethnicity. Growing up, she spent the majority of her childhood in South Africa before moving to Canada temporarily at the age of 11 but eventually returned at the age of 14. As regards her educational background, she had the major part of her secondary school education in South Africa before she relocated finally to Canada at the age of 17 with her going on to complete her secondary school education at the West Vancouver Secondary School.
Upon completion of her high school education in 1998, she had her sights set on attending medical school and eventually getting a college degree in medicine but everything changed after her mom urged her to audition for a short play titled Valley Song which was expected to be performed at the Vancouver film festival. She refused initially but eventually gave it a shot and ended up getting the role.
After the festival, she received a call from a certain movie agent which eventually led to her making her big screen debut in the 1999 American drama telefilm, In a Class of His Own. The following year, she featured in the Fox family television series Higher Ground in which she played the role of an African-American child adopted by white parents before going on to score a recurring role in the popular television series, Da Vinci’s Inquest. Her big break came in 2002 after she got cast to play the character of Snell in the remake of the 1976 film Carrie. As a result of her outstanding performance, she earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
In 2004, while still basking in the success of her role in Carrie, she scored herself a major role on the Sci-Fi Channel’s hit series Battlestar Galactica in which she played the role of Anastasia Dee Dualla. She remained a regular on the series until its very last episode in 2009 with her winning the pea body award for excellence in 2005. That being said, she has gone all the way to feature in several other hit TV series and films such as Hemlock Grove, Broken Kingdom, Reaper, Smallville, Jake 2.0, and Just Be Yourself.
