Susan Abigail Tomalin was born in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York in the United States on October 4, 1946. Her dad Philip Tomalin is of English, Irish, Welsh descent while Lenora Marie is of Italian descent. She has eight siblings, four brothers, and four sisters; they were raised in New Jersey. Her father worked as a television producer and an advertising executive.
While she was growing up, Susan went to Edison High School where she graduated in 1964. She enrolled at the Catholic University of America where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Drama. While at the Catholic University, she worked with a notable drama master and coach named Father Gilbert Hartke.
After her graduation, she made her film debut in 1969 when she appeared as the lead character in the motion picture film titled Joe.
