Victor Joseph Garber was born in London, Ontario, Canada, on the 16th of March 1949. His father, Joeseph “Joe” Garber, died in 1995, while his mother, Hope Garber, died in 2005. Interestingly, his mother was a singer and an actress popularly known as the host of the show, At Home With Hope Garber. He is not the only child of his parents as he has two siblings; a brother named Nathan Garber and a sister named Alisa Garber. Through his parents, he is of Russian-Jewish descent.
Garber became fascinated with the performing arts at an early age due to his mum’s influence. After having begun acting at the age of nine, the young boy was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1962, at just twelve years of age. Despite this, he was still able to join the children’s program at the Grand Theatre as he attended Ryerson Elementary School.
When he was sixteen years of age, he applied to be a part of a training program that was theatre-based. Luckily, he was accepted and trained by Robert Gill at the University of Toronto, for a three-week period.

He first found work as a folk singer in 1967 before joining forces with Peter Mann to form the group The Sugar Shoppe with two additional members; Lee Harris and Laurie Hood. Throughout the run with the group, just mild success was achieved as the group’s best song, “Canada,” managed to break into the Canadian top 40 charts.
The group went ahead to disband in the coming years even though they had managed to perform on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and The Ed Sullivan Show.

Having somewhat abandoned his music career, Victor Garber had his breakout role in 1973 in the movie, Godspell, where he played the role of Jesus. In 1997, he was given the role of a shipbuilder named Thomas Andrews in the hit movie, Titanic.
In 2001 and 2002, he starred in the movies, Legally Blonde, and Tuck Everlastingrespectively. He then got the chance to star in his first superhero animated movie, Green Lantern: First Flight, where he voiced the character of Sinestro. His next work was in one of the most popular science fiction franchises ever, Star Trek, where he played the role of a Klingon interrogator. Unfortunately for him, however, his role in the movie was part of the deleted scenes.
In 2007, Garber was featured in a highly successful stage production titled Encores! alongside Donna Murphy. The following year, he earned himself a Lifetime Achievement Theatre World John Willis Award.
