The host of the show is actually the scion of a two-time Emmy award winner, journalist, columnist, and author, Bill Geist. Willie was born into the respected Geist family, his father Bill is a renowned journalist, columnist, and author, he is a two-time Emmy Award winner and currently works as a news correspondent for CBS. Bill has been a great supporter of his son’s career in journalism and has helped him to pave his way into the world of broadcasting. Billie’s first book was co-authored by his father. His mother, Jody Geist, earns her living as a social worker. Willie is the great-grandson of Herbie Lewis, a celebrated field hockey player who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Another notable member of the Geist family is Willie’s younger sister, Libby Geist Wildes, who worked as an executive producer for the ESPN documentary. In 2008, Libby received the George Foster Peabody Award for Black Magic, a popular documentary video about basketball programs at historically black universities and colleges of education. Libby’s second Peabody Award came in 2010 with 30 for 30 – another documentary focusing on the anniversary and funding of ESPN.

As for his romantic relationship, Willie Geist is a married man. On May 24, 2003, Willie Geist officially married his girlfriend Christina Sharkey from high school in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Since they met in high school they have been inseparable, spending every phase of their formative years together with a record 16 years of courtship before the beginning of their married life.

The couple has spent 15 blissful years of marriage without the slightest inkling of separation or divorce. They have settled in New York City with their two children; one daughter, Lucie Joy Geist, joined the family on June 14, 2007, and son George Geist was born in 2009.

Willie himself announced his imminent departure from the anchorage in the third hour of this Monday morning. He went on to say that he had to resign from one of the shows that happened to be the third hour of Today Monday morning with Tamron Hall and Al Roker. Willie will be replaced by Billy Bush, but he will continue to host Morning Joe and Sunday Today.

At least his enthusiastic fans won’t have to miss his presence on television altogether, as he is still very active in his career as a presenter.
