Jennifer Michelle “Ginnifer” Goodwin was born on the 22nd of May, 1978 in Memphis Tennessee. Her mother, Linda, was a stay-at-home mother who later worked for Apple and FedEx while her father owned a recording studio. The actress changed her name from ‘Jennifer’ to ‘Ginnifer’ to not only enable her name to stand out but help people pronounce her name correctly with her Southern American regional dialect. She has a younger sister, Melissa, who is a stop motion animator and has worked on several shows including Robot Chicken.
Ginnifer Goodwin is of Jewish ancestry with her mother being of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. As a result, she attended synagogue on Saturdays and Unitarian church on Sundays. She was also baptized and had a Bat Mitzvah service. From a young age, she was active in the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization – Jewish teen movement – at the Memphis Jewish Community Center. She was also affiliated with the North American Federation of Temple Youth.
She attended the St. Mary’s Episcopal School in Memphis and later, the Lausanne Collegiate School, which she graduated from in 1996. She subsequently attended the iconic Hanover College to study Theater, however, she was only at Hanover for a year before getting her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Boston University.
While at Boston University, she appeared in quite a few student/short films and local stage productions. She graduated from university with Honors and then relocated to England to study at the Shakespeare Institute at Stratford Upon-Avon. She also received an “Acting Shakespeare Certificate” from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.
She was awarded the Bette Davis Foundation’s “Excellence in Acting: Professional Promise Award”.

Ginner Godwin dated Joey Kern – an actor best known for his roles in Cabin Fever and Grind – and the two became engaged in 2010. However, they ended the engagement in 2011. Shortly after, she began her relationship with Josh Dallas, whom she would later marry. Josh, who was born on the 18th of December, 1978, is an American actor best known for his roles in Once Upon A Time as Prince Charming and as Fandral in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film – Thor.
They began their relationship in 2011 and by 2013, they had become engaged. The two got married on the 12th of April, 2014. Their first child, Oliver Finlay Dallas, was born in 2014, while their second son, Hugo Wilson Dallas, was born in 2016.

Like many women, Ginnifer Goodwin put on weight during her pregnancies. She gained a noticeable amount of weight during her first pregnancy which was then written into the show she was working on at the time Once upon a time. However, with a lot of hard work and dedication, she was able to lose weight.
But unlike most celebrities, Ginnifer was not able to lose weight quickly but she put in the time and effort, especially where her diet was concerned.
Being a new mom, she also didn’t put too much into getting back into shape, instead, she chose to prioritize her baby’s health and their relationship before focusing on her body. Now Ginnifer has lost all of her pregnancy weight and is currently rocking a slim body.
The actress has admitted that she uses ‘Weight Watchers’ to keep her figure in check.
