Dancer turned professional wrestler and actress, Hikaru Shida is a Japanese wrestling phenomena. She is signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) but began her career in 2008 in  Ice Ribbon. Shida spent the first six years of her career in Ice Ribbon, winning their top title – the ICEx60 Championship. She was also a four-time International Ribbon Tag Team Champion; one of which was during her ICEx60 reign, making her a double champion.

Hikaru Shida became a freelancer in 2014. As a freelancer, Shida earned more tag team championships in Oz Acadamy, Sendai Girls and Reina wrestling promotions.

1. She Is An AEW Signee

A riveting dynamo, Shida debuted in 2008 and was an accomplished tag team worker from an early stage of her career. She was signed to Ice Ribbon before becoming a freelancer in 2014. The joshi (Japanese women wrestling) freelancer worked in places like Shimmer and Wrestle-1 prior to ending her freelancing days in February 2017 by signing with the Makai company which combines the concept of fight, music, and acting. After honing her craft for more than 10 years, she was ready for the next stage of her career.

In 2019, she moved over to the US where she put pen to paper with All Elite Wrestling (AEW). She made her AEW debut on May 25, 2019 at Double or Nothing where she competed in the six women tag-team match.

2. Hikaru Shida Is A Force to Reckon With In The Joshi World

Though now signed to AEW and has recently moved to the US, she left an indelible impact in the Japanese scene. She hasn’t wrestled much outside of Japan, but in Joshi world, she is an absolute force to be reckoned with.

Born on the 11th of June, 1988 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, Hikaru Shida started training in combat sports from an early age. She practiced both Judo and Kendo in her childhood and even reached third-dan in Kendo. However, she did not take it any further than that as she took a different path to an acting career. She worked mostly on TV in such series as Muscle Venus and also starred in a lead role in the 2008 film Three Count.

The film, set in the world of professional wrestling must have reignited her passion for combat sports as she was soon to debut on the professional scene shortly afterward. After the filming of the movie, she joined Ice Ribbon, subsequently making a career out of professional wrestling. Shida also had a brief stint in mixed martial art in 2009.

She spent the majority of her career in Japan where she worked for Ice Ribbon, OZ Academy, Sendai Girls, Reina, Shimmer, and Pro Wrestling Wave, sweeping various championship titles in the process. With more than one decade in-ring experience, in a country that takes pro women’s wrestling seriously, Hikaru Shida is better prepared as she heads for a career outside Japan.

3. Hikaru Shida Wrestled With Kenny Omega When She Was 9

Shida has squared off with veteran wrestlers, the likes of Emi Sukura, Dakota Kai, , Aja Kong, and Naomichi Marufiji. Yes, that’s right; Kenny Omega of WWE. Shida has been an intergender legend for a while now. The Shida-Omega fight took place years ago when Hikaru Shida was allegedly only 9.

As per records, the young Shida was upset that she was not being recruited to become a professional wrestler. The wrestling promotion, reportedly DDT or Stardom, decided to let her have a match as a way to cheer her up. In other news, the young girl in question has been said to be Starlight Kid, another Japanese female wrestler, and not Shida. Whichever be the case, Shida is a force to reckon with and has been for years, nonetheless.

Shida is something of a triple threat. When she is not wrestling or involved in martial arts, she makes a good and talented actress and a bit of a cosplayer too; implementing a bit of acting in her in-ring cosplays. Some of her costumes include the likes of Chun-Li and . As an actress, she has credits both in films and on TV shows.
