Sheamus’ Biography (Age)
Sheamus O’Shaunessy’s birth name is Stephen Farrelly and he was born January 28, 1978. He is an Irish wrestler who was born in Cabra, Dublin, Ireland. The name of his mother is not known but his father’s name is Martin Farrelly. Not much is known about his childhood, however, he attended Scoil Caoimhin Primary and Coláiste Mhuire Secondary School. Looking at his outlook now, it may be difficult to believe Sheamus ever sang, not to speak of singing in a choir, but yes, he did and he did so with the Palestrina Choir when he was in high school. He also made an appearance on the Late Late Show and Live at Three.
The WWE star played Gaelic football, a type of Irish football played by teams made up of fifteen players on each side. He played for the Erin’s Isle team and was once named Sports Star of the Month. While attending college at the National College of Ireland, Sheamus continued to satisfy his thirst for sports as he played rugby with the college team. He also obtained a National Diploma from the college.
The former IT technician got a chance to try wrestling at the time he was working as a security guard at a nightclub. He would also double that with a part-time job as a bodyguard for English actress, Denise van Outen and also for musicians, Bono and Larry Mullen Jr., both of the U2 fame. He was advised at that time by Bret Hart to join the Larry Sharpe’s Monster Factory wrestling school as Bret thought he would do well as a wrestler – and he wasn’t wrong. In April 2002, Sheamus began his journey to wrestling greatness by starting his training at the wrestling school, and in six weeks, he was facing his first opponent as a wrestler. The Celtic Warrior fought against Robert Pigeon on his debut appearance while he adopted the ring name “Sheamus O’Shaunessy”
Wrestling Career – WWE
Sheamus grew up watching both American and British wrestling on TV and that was how he initially loved wrestling as a sport. He started with the Irish Whip Wrestling (IWW) where he soon became a two-time Irish Whip International Wrestling Heavyweight Champion before he found a path to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). His leaving the IWW was down to a serious injury he had while training. His journey with the WWE began in 2009 and it has seen him defeat John Cena to claim the WWE Championship, making him the first Irish man to win the title in 2010. Sheamus (which he changed his ring name to in 2010 from Sheamus O’Shaunessy) has fought in tag-team matches with Victor Ceron, Hade Vansen, and Jake Hager.
He claimed the World Heavyweight Championship title from Daniel Bryan after he defeated him in 2011 and he defended his title and held onto it for a period of seven months before conceding it to Big Show. His 7-month reign as World Heavyweight Champion is the third-longest reign in the history of the title. In his WWE career, the modern-day Irish warrior has won where and when it mattered the most. He has beaten several big names in the WWE circle, first of whom was John Cena. He has also recorded victories against Randy Orton, Big Show, Triple-H, Daniel Bryan (who he fought and defeated in 18 seconds to take home the World Heavyweight Title in 2015), among others.
The several accolades which he has to his name include World Heavyweight Championship, WWE Raw Tag Team Championship (4x – with Cesaro), WWE United States Champion (2x), 2010 King of the Ring Champion, 2012 Royal Rumble Champion, 2015 Money in the Bank Champion to mention a few.
Sheamus has also proven to be a man of many parts. Not satisfied with his career as a wrestler, he has also tried to forge a path for himself in acting which has seen him make appearances in a couple of movies including The Escapist (2008), Once Upon A Time In Dublin (2009), Assualt of Darkness (2009), Atone (2017), etc. He made his grand debut in films with The Escapist which won the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Film Performance, it also won the British Independent Film Award for Best Production Performance.
He lent his voice in the production of the commercially successful animated movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016). The movies grossed over $250 million worldwide, which made it his most successful venture since his involvement in movies.
Sheamus rose in WWE till he has become a force to be reckoned with in the wrestling world, especially financially. His luxury lifestyle and penchant for the good things life has to offer are well documented. The Dublin-born professional wrestler purchased a 4.000 square-foot home in the small bay-area town of Odessa at the cost of $540,000. The facilities on the property include four bedrooms and four bathrooms, a saltwater pool and a spa, a three-car garage, and so on.
Not satisfied with that, he bought another property in 2016 – a 1,568 square-foot condo with two bedrooms in Tampa, Florida. His collection of automobiles are classic. He recently bought a DeLorean car at the cost of $55,000 and that is in addition to other cars, including a BMW, he owns.
And why not, with a large net worth estimated to be at about $7 – $8 million and an annual WWE take-home pay of $1.5 million, who would not be tempted to splash some dollar bills on comfort?
Is Sheamus Married? – Wife
Sheamus is not married yet and his relationships and affairs are not known at the moment so it might be safe to speculate that he is single for the time being. Unlike his colleagues in the wrestling world who would naturally fall for ladies involved in the same line of trade, Sheamus has proven to be different in this regard. His last known official relationship, according to reports, was with model Brooke Hubbard. They, however, broke up in 2013.
Before Hubbard, Sheamus dated Jessica Giles who herself is a movie director and worked as assistant director in the production of the movie Resident Evil: Retribution. The couple broke up in 2012 after dating for nine months.
