1. Early Life, Childhood, and Education

Allison Chinchar was born on the 9th of April 1984 in Mansfield, Ohio, United States of America. Unfortunately, the details of her childhood and how it could have been like is a mystery to the media. However, after reading her Twitter bio, we can’t help but speculate that Chinchar’s childhood involved a fascination with nature. After graduating from high school, Chinchar enrolled at the Ohio State University in 2003. Five years later in 2008, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology. But Chinchar wasn’t all about academics, she was a member of the Delta Delta Sorority and of course was part of the school’s Meteorology club.

2. Career Rise

Right after graduating from Ohio State University, Chinchar began her career. Her first professional job was working as a weekend evening meteorologist for the ABC-affiliated television station WTC-TV also known as News Channel licensed to Chattanooga, Tennessee. She held that job for exactly two years and 11 months, leaving in January 2011.

Up Next, Chinchar joined another ABC-affiliate WKRN licensed to Nashville, Tennessee as a weekend evening meteorologist. She worked with the station for a year and 6 months before moving to Atlanta, Georgia to work for WXIA-TV as a weekend meteorologist. She assumed her WXIA job in June 2012, remaining until January 2015. Fast forward to 5 months later and CNN came knocking on her doors which Chinchar gladly opened. She is the meteorologist for HLN Weekend Express, CNN International, and CNN.

In addition to her blossoming career, Chinchar is actively involved with numerous weather-focused campaigns and organizations including; ASPCA (American Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals), AMS (American Meteorological Society) and NWS (National Weather Services).

3. She is married

Yup! Sorry guys, but Allison is taken. Following a couple of years of dating, she tied the knot with fellow meteorologist Mike Bettes in 2012. Interestingly, they both graduated from Ohio State University. The school seems to know what they are doing in their Atmospheric Sciences department, we digress…

In addition to being a meteorologist, Allison’s husband Mike Bettes is also a storm chaser. He was born on January 9, 1972, making him 12 years older than Chinchar. Having begun his career in 1988, he has a wealth of experience that gives his wife’s the run for her money. He is best known for his work with The Weather Channel and NBC News.

For the first time ever, Chinchar and her husband Mike worked together on 21st December 2015 on the set of the Weather Channel (pictured above).

4. She is Mike Bettes’ second wife

Not to ruin the fact that they are a picture-perfect couple, but Allison Chinchar is not her husband’s first love. Mike Bettes was previously married to another meteorologist named Stephanie Abrams. Mike and Stephanie worked together as co-hosts of The Weather Channel’s program, Abrams & Bettes Beyond the Forecast which ran from September 2006 to February 2009.

Their on-set chemistry was bared out for all to see and it wasn’t long until they got engaged and later married. However, their union was only short-lived and produced no kids. While Mike went on to love Allison Chinchar, Stephanie became engaged to a mystery man in February 2017.

5. Chinchar is a mother

About three years after tying the knot with Mike, Chinchar welcomed her first baby, a son named Landen Benjamin Bettes on January 31st, 2015. Her pregnancy was first announced by 11 Alive News in July 2014. The baby’s birth was announced by Bettes via his Twitter handle where he also spilled that the baby weighed 8lbs 3oz.
