It definitely would not be surprising to know that G Dragon is not the birth name of the singer, as it is only a stage name coined from his surname Ji-Yong. The letter “G” from G-Dragon is adapted from the English pronunciation of “Ji” the first syllable of his surname Ji-Yong, while “Dragon” is the English translation of “Yong”.
G Dragon was born as Kwon Ji-Yong on August 18, 1988, in Seoul, the capital city of South Korea. The singer was born to his parents Han Gi-ran and Kwon Young Hwan. Growing up, he attended Seoul Korean Traditional Arts Middle and High School. After he completed his high school education, he went on to study postmodern music at the Kyung University but dropped out along the way. He later enrolled at Gukje Cyber University and obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2013. He got his master’s degree in content and retail distribution from Sejong University.
When he was 6 years old, he started doing music and joined a young music group called Little Roo’ra. The group was officially unveiled on television but just before its first performance, Jang Hyun-Seung was dropped from the band, leaving the band with five members.
