How Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade First Meet
The first time Gabrielle Union and Dwayne met was in 2007. By that time, Wade was already a well-established basketball star while Union was an international actress. Both wade and Union were hired to host a Super Bowl party.
Less than a year before they met, Union had finalized her divorce from her ex-husband Chris Howard while Dwayne was still married to his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches. However, the marriage was already heading for divorce.
According to America’s Got Talent judge, there was nothing about Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade’s first meeting that really suggested anything serious could go on between them; Gabrielle was close to a decade older than him, Dwayne was heading towards a divorce, and was an athlete.
There was really nothing serious that happened at first as while Gabrielle was on one side of the room with her people, Dwayne was on the other end holding a bible study.
Nothing more was heard about Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade together until 2009 when Union went with him to his Summer Groove charity dinner as his guest. This was also the first time that they were photographed together, and so soon the rumor and speculations began going around that the two were dating.
Even though Wade and his ex-wife were separated in 2007, their divorce still continued into 2010. Hence, in May 2010, Funches filed a lawsuit claiming “emotional distress” against Gabrielle Union. The case did not go far as it was soon dismissed.
Later in the same year, they made their red carpet debut as a couple. Although it was already believed that they were dating, it was until 2012 that they finally made it official when they featured on the cover of Essence magazine and talked about their relationship. Wade stated that they were not rushing to get married because they have both had the experience and so they wanted to have it right the next time they would walk down the aisle.
In January 2013, it seemed like the couple was done as they walked their separate paths. However, they were back by April of the same year. According to Union, their breakup was due to distance and scheduling.

The union between Gabrielle and Dwayne became even stronger after they were back in April and by December, they were already engaged with a $1 million ring. In August 2014, Dwayne Wade got married to Gabrielle Union at an event in Miami, Florida.
They had their honeymoon in the Maldives and have since then remained happily married, although like every other couple, they have their difficult times.
Following their marriage, Union revealed that in order to protect their individual assets, they were going to sign a prenup. While Wade has a net worth that is estimated at $120 Million, Union has a $20 million net worth.
Their Children
The marriage between Wade and Union has been blessed with a daughter, Kaavia James Union Wade who was born in November 2018 via surrogacy. One of the main challenges they had in their marriage which they did not hide from the public was as regards fertility issues.
In their years as a couple, Union suffered close to 10 miscarriages in their attempt to expand their family. More so, she also tried to get pregnant after going through years of IVF. After years of trying with no success, they decided to accept the idea of surrogacy through which they had their daughter.
Although Union did not have any child from her first marriage, Wade had two boys from his first marriage and one from his longtime friend, Aja Metoyer. Wade has full custody of his sons from his marriage to Siohvaughn Funches.
