When asked about the reasons for her abrupt and unannounced departure, Amy Carlson did not give a conclusive answer. The closest she came to a revelation was that there were delays in contract negotiations and other financial problems that the actress did not like. She announced her departure on Twitter and thanked CBS, her co-stars, and fans.

However, after the way her character was killed hastily and off-screen, she expressed her disappointment at the way this happened. Amy, like many fans of the show, felt that there should have been an appropriate and well-written tragedy on-screen, a funeral, and tears for it. In an interview with Deadline, Carlson revealed that she would be open to returning to the show to shoot some flashbacks of her passing that would give the fans the closure they so desperately needed.

Following this film, she quickly cast two more roles: Jerry in the comedy The Incoherent and Samantha in the drama Sunny Daze.
